THE PARABLES OF JESUS

Parable of the Leaven

The Parable of the Leaven (also called the Parable of the Yeast) is one of the shorter parables of Jesus.
It appears in two of the Canonical gospels of the New Testament. The differences between Gospels of Matthew 13:33 & Luke 13:20–21 are minor.

(He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”) Matthew 13:33

Its theme is that of the Kingdom of Heaven growing from small beginnings. The final outcome is inevitable once the natural process of growth has begun.

 Matthew 13:33

THE PARABLES OF JESUS

Parable of the Mustard Seed

In Matthew 13:31–32 (He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”) Also its found in  Mark 4:30–32, & Luke 13:18–19.

This parable's theme is the Kingdom of Heaven growing from small beginnings.

Matthew 13:31-32

THE PARABLES OF JESUS

Parable of the Growing Seed

The Parable of the Growing Seed (also called the Seed Growing Secretly or Spiritual Vegetation.)
This parable appears in only one of the Canonical gospels of the New Testament.

According to Mark 4:26-29 (He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”)

It is a parable about growth in the Kingdom of God.

Mark 4:26-29

THE PARABLES OF JESUS

Parable of the Pearl

The Parable of the Pearl is also called the Pearl of Great Price. According to Matthew 13:45-46 (“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.) The parable illustrates the great value of the Kingdom of Heaven.

This is about seeking and recognizing the value of God's gift.. Though the man in the previous parable may have simply run across the treasure by chance, this man purposely sought the treasure, making it his profession and purpose in life. Such an attitude is a characteristic of saving faith as the author of Hebrews writes

Heb 11:6 "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
